Paella
Although there are still debates about Paella’s origin, Barcelona is one of the cities where you can have one of the bests ever. This delicious rice dish generally comes in three types, depending on the ingredient mixed with rice. You can choose the one with vegetables and chicken, which is assumed to be the original one, the one with the seafood or the mixed one. You will notice a lot of places, especially across La Rambla serve paella. However if you would like to try a real and mouthwatering one, the restaurants to be headed are Bosque Palermo, Can Majó or 7 Portes.
Snails
No it is not a word trick. You have read correctly; snails are one other thing you should try eating if you are an adventurist food enthusiast. The dish that is prepared with snails cooked with their shells with a thick sauce may not sound as one of the tastiest dishes ever until you try one. However you are recommended to go to one of the most iconic restaurants of Barcelona, Los Caracoles to change your mind. The restaurant is a family run establishment and is known to have a great design with an open kitchen you can walk through to reach your table. If you plan to visit, make sure to try the fried green peppers that are served with rock salt.
Tapas
You cannot leave Barcelona before you feast at a table covered with different kind of Tapas, a kind of appetizer which can be described as bread slices covered with different toppings. It is probably one of the most famous Spanish dishes that can be found in all parts of the world. However you will be glad to try the real one out and notice how this little snack actually tastes a lot better when comes out from the expert chefs. Once again, you’ll observe a lot of restaurants offering tapas, but for the best in town, Cervecería Catalana, Quimet & Quimet or Bodega del Poblet.
Sangria
It really doesn’t matter if you heard of sangria and have tried it before somewhere else or it will be your first time of trying this miraculous drink because you are in the best city to try it out. The famous Sangria, a mixture of chopped fruit, wine and sweetener (sometimes brandy, too) can even be found ready to drink in super markets but you should spare some time and go with a fresh one. The best places to enjoy the aromatic dance of alcohol and fruit are La Cuina d'en Garriga, Arcano and L'Ovella Negra.
Cava
If the French have champagne, the Spanish have cava. It is known as the Spanish wine but closer to champagne in the taste sense. It is a part of the Spanish culture and usually consumed in celebrations. This sparkling wine is produced from the best grapes of the country and some place in Barcelona serve the best examples of this beautiful drink. Just like sangria, you can buy cava from the markets but here are some places you are recommended to go and try their specials on their cava menu; Cavamar, La Vinya del Senyor and El Xampanyet.
Kalimotxo
Get ready for one of the strangest drinks you will probably get to try; Kalimotxo! The mixture of cola and red wine is unexpectedly delicious and you will probably not be able to stop by having one. Although its history doesn’t not back to years and years ago, it has quickly strengthen its place among the favorite drinks of the nation. It is quite simple to drink it anywhere you have the access to red wine and cola; just pour one part red wine and one part cola together and enjoy.
